"Unkonwn" Simon Brand's Biography
Introduction
Simon Brand was born on 28th July 1970 in
Cali, Valle del Cauca. He’s a Colombian film director, film producer, and music
video director, also he is married with the Colombian model and presenter
Claudia Bahamón; besides he has directed
several music videos for artists like Shakira, Juanes, Ricky Martin, Celia Cruz
and others. he has directed two films and had reached unexpected results for a
Colombian director.
Change of Career
Simon Brand studied social communication in the
Javeriana University, but he didn't finish the career. He started his career as
a film director when he was directing a music video for a local rock band at
the age of 17. After he realized that this was the career for him, Simon moved
to Miami in the late 80’s to persue his dream of directing.
Life in the United States
In the U.S he improved all his work on music videos
and commercials showing his talent evolve with each project. So he founded
Kree8 Productions, as a necessity for looking a new perspective. His
creativity, gave him the opportunity to work with artists such as Enrique
Iglesias, Celia Cruz, Thalia and others, after that he became very popular in
the U.K after directing pop musical videos for artists like Westlife, Steps and
Gabrielle. He has directed commercials for companies like Pepsi, Coca Cola,
BMW, AT&T, Apple, Verizon and others. But after doing all his work he
haven't achieved his final goal, to take part on films.
His dream of directing
In 2003 he moved to Los Angeles to make his first
feature film “ Unknown”, with the cast starring Jim Caviezel, Greg Kinnear,the
movie had a budget of 3 million dollars,but this movie obtained more than 17
million dollars in the whole world. Then, in 2008 he premiered his movie
“Paraiso Travel”. This movie is based on the best selling book of Jorge Franco,
also this film was called by the magazine TIME to be one of the best latin
movies of all time. When it has premiered in Colombia, it became the most
watched film in 888,409 spectators. After that his list of artists became to
grow with artists like Juan Luis Guerra,
Calle 13, and others.
The Present
In 2013 he premiered his third movie “Default”. He has
recently honored as one of the 100 Colombians by the Marca Pais and 100 latinos
with Shakira, Gabriel Garcia Márquez, Sofia Vergara, Falcao Garcia, also he has
been included in the 40 most influential latin people of Hollywood by the TIME
magazine. Now, he’s preparing a new movie called “Captive” with one of the most
important actors of Hollywood, Bruce Willis.
