Carlos
Vives was born the 7 of August in 1961, in the city of Santa Marta in
Colombia. His parents Luis Aurelio Diaz and Aracelly Restrepo met while
Luis was studying medicine , then they secretly got married and had
four children , of whom Carlos Vives was the second one. He studied at
the Liceo Frances school in Santa Marta , where he spent most of his
time playing soccer . His dad organized parties and his grandmother
encouraged him to learn how to play the piano. When his parents got
divorced and he had not yet finished school ,he decided to move to
Bogotá. He devoted himself to music at an early age .When he was nine
years old, his father made him sing at family meetings , he also helped
the pastor raise money for the church singing in public ,and walked the
streets of his hometown with a guitar. In 1979 he entered the School of
Dramatic Art in Colombia, and in addition he also studied advertising.
Carlos Vives began singing vallenato with eleven other musicians, with
whom he formed a band called''La Provincia''.
