The B-allet Queen

My Opinion about her

Sonia was born de 25th of march 1928 in Bogota; Colombia, but she was raised in Barranquilla. She was the daughter of Enrique Osorio pioneer of Colombian thetre, who was a journalist, poet and playwright and Lucia de Saint- Malo, who was piano player.
Before coming journalist, choreographer and designer Sonia took dance classes in Ecuador and Venezuela, where she accompanied her father (due to his work) for long time periods. Furthermore, years later she developed her studies In Paris and New York and when she was back into the country she started her project in dance.

Within the first groups she settle as a choreographer she worked with the inmates of “El buen Pastor” In Bogota. Due to this work Sonia received numberless invitations to perform and compete internationally she had to reject since the lack of time of her dancer, who had at first priorities other academic and work responsibilities.
It was for this reason that fifty-three years ago Sonia Osorio became the foundress of “El Ballet Nacional de Colombia”, dance company and academy integrated by dedicated full time dancers who loved this art as much as she did. Her work was worldwide recognize as a new way of showing our Bambucos, Pasillos and Cumbias during five consecutive decades in Paris, Moscow, Monte Carlo and much more.

Sonia was such as star that in more than one occasion people such as Grace Kelly, the Jordanian kings, Roman Polanski and thousands more spectators jumped out of their seats the minute the heard her music, which filled them with her sound and rhythm.
